  • Repetition: replace words and names used frequently with synonyms or pronouns

  • transition words (start of body paragraphs and conclusion; context)
  • analysis: make it more complete and make sure it connects the quote back to survival
  • word choice: describe extreme conditions with words that are appropriately intense
